dia hanya manusia

31 Desember, 2009

ibu jari meniti butiran tasbih.
menyatu bersama tangan tengadah.
bibir merapal doa.
air mata mengaliri duka.
melepas perginya sang pendobrak.

dia hanya manusia.
yang harus menutup usia.
ketika al-maut menjemput.

Pernahkah Anda melihat bulan?

The heavens are almost torn

25 Desember, 2009

Did you know that one trivial sentence can cause terrible evil thing such as the heavens are almost torn, the earth is split asunder, and the mountains fall in ruins. You must be wondering whether the sentence had an incredible impact like that. After hearing that God has begotten a child, the heavens, the earth and the mountains could not contain their jealousy filled with anger. How is it possible? Such lies have been uttered by a despicable creature called human, but God who had created them alone and manage all matters under His Throne does not need allies let alone children. This is reportedly in the Quran, surah Maryam, QS 19: 88-93.

88. And they say: “The Most Beneficent (Allâh) has begotten a son (or offspring or children) [as the Jews say: ‘Uzair (Ezra) is the son of Allâh, and the Christians say that He has begotten a son [‘Iesa (Christ)], and the pagan Arabs say that He has begotten daughters (angels, etc.)].”
89. Indeed you have brought forth (said) a terrible evil thing.
90. Whereby the heavens are almost torn, and the earth is split asunder, and the mountains fall in ruins,
91. That they ascribe a son (or offspring or children) to the Most Beneficent (Allâh).
92. But it is not suitable for (the Majesty of) the Most Beneficent (Allâh) that He should beget a son (or offspring or children).
93. There is none in the heavens and the earth but comes unto the Most Beneficent (Allâh) as a slave.

Nevertheles, as reported by a hadith: none are more patient to hear of such noises than God, because Allâh still allow them to live on earth that created by Him and bestow grace and life to people who say that God has begotten a son. Therefore, when on one day some people came to the Prophet shallallahu alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam questioned about the descendants of God. Then revealed surah Al-Ikhlas, QS 112:1-4 to refute their assumption:

1. Say (O Muhammad): “He is Allâh, (the) One.
2. “Allâh-us-Samad (The Self-Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need, He neither eats nor drinks).
3. “He begets not, nor was He begotten;
4. “And there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him.”

This surah give a brief description that  decisively broke the assumptions of those who believe that God has a child. This is what should be understood by people who claim to have completely surrendered to God. Which denies that God has begotten a child, denying the celebration such as Christmas, refusing to give greetings. It’s all done to maintain their creed of Tawheed as a Muslim.

How great is Allah?

19 Desember, 2009

Although every Muslim to admit the greatness of Allah, but how many know how much the greatness of Him? Friday prayer preacher once convey how great the Ayat Kursi (QS Al-Baqarah, 2:255) to explain the greatness of Allah.

Kursi.jpg (71760 bytes)

Allâh! Lâ ilâha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter . And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His Kursî extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.

The Qur’an also reported that after creating the heavens and the earth and its contents in six days, God dwells in the Throne (in a manner that suits His Majesty)  (QS. Al-A’raf, 7: 54) which is above the Chairs. Yet the extent of God Chairs include the seven heavens and the earth. The news from one of the Companions of the Prophet also mentioned that the size of the seven heavens and the earth and its contents than the Chairs of God is like a bracelet that is thrown to the desert.

Thus, by knowing how small the heavens and the earth than the Chairs, how very, very small man compared to God. Are we still feel great as to forget to worship Allah?

The tale of two dreams

12 Desember, 2009

The tale has been told for centuries, uncountable personal legends have been made, many great peoples have been pinned up the world’s map of dream comes true. Somewhere over the rainbow, somewhere out there,  somewhere beyond the sea, more and more “somewhere something” songs have been sung. Great novels and stories have been written and played.

A 1988 Paulo Coelho’s best seller novel The Alchemist told a story about Santiago, a young Spanish shepherd, on a journey to fulfill his Personal Legend. A 2009 Disney’s animated movie UP! show us a story about 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen sets out to fulfill his lifelong dream to see the wilds of South America by tying thousands of balloon to his home.

Long time before the fictions, Ibn Battuta had his great adventures  written along with the half globe journeys. And many more to be mentioned will crash this blog up 🙂

I, my self, am a dreamer, and try not to stop dreaming. I build my dream everyday, from every simple good thing I can made, to follow the path of Allah’s Apostle peace be upon him and his pious companions, in order to find God’s Pleasures and Graces that may be bestow on me and family during my entire life here and hereafter.

What about you?

Refuelling Trip

11 Desember, 2009

Everytime you need to refueled your spirit, go visit somebody. It could be anybody: hang out with the groups, talks to your friends, consult with the pious, romantic dinner with your love. While you far away, you may contact them via telephone, e-mail or internet chatting services. You also may visit somebody you’ve know at where you’re assigned.

In this trip, I would like to visit my relative and friend at my spare time. It takes about 3.5 hours to Austin from Dallas, 2.5 hours to College Station from Austin, and 3 hours to Dallas from College Station. Pass the highway, interstate and country road. Take some night race with a growled sportcar. Creep behind the police car. Refill on low tires  and gas at gas station. Speeding through the fog and mist. This weekend trip has refueled my spirit.

My relative is US residence and working in the US since 1997, runaway from Indonesian companies which can not suffice his idealism on professionalism attitude. While my friend is a Master Candidate of Petroleum Engineering Department, Texas A&M University, runaway from Indonesian company to reach his dream studying in US. And my travel mate during this trip is an experience  who become wiser at his age.

Conversations were made in this trip. Share the experiences and perspectives that may enrich my knowledges. Build close relationship and keep contact with them.

Honorary Member, was it for our teachers?

8 Desember, 2009

When i received a business card from the lecturer who thaught a technical short course several days ago, i put my eyes on a phrase printed on it: Honorary Member of SPE. I have no wonder how did he get that title, as he is an expert on his subject and dedicated his 60 years experiences for oil industry. For your information SPE stands for Society of Petroleum Engineer, a prestigious association for those who work in oil industry. New engineers or those who just join the SPE still holding their Regular Member until prove their dedication to the oil world.

The lecturer himself is now about 80s, but he still a motivated person who share his knowledge, by teaching, delivering seminars, or writing technical papers. So that you must be agree for the title printed on the lecturer’s business card: Honorary Member 🙂

Compare to the condition of our country, many “honorary” teachers fight for their status to be “regular” teachers. It is reasonable that regular teacher status as civil servant give them clear warranty on their salary and pension plan, which can not be achieved by their “honorary” status. But, what if the title “honorary” is maintained as per its original meaning of honor. Unfortunately Bahasa Indonesia does not distinct the word “honorarium” to “honorary”: “honorer”. If this re-translate into English will get the word: “honorary”.

However, teachers must be honorable person who work for respectable job, although honorary (meant to take honorarium) 🙂
