My middle name is “Eka”, my father gave that name for a simple reason: the first child can be named “Eka”. Although people usually call my first name or my nickname, there’s only a few call me “Eka”, and fewer of them call my last name. But recently, a 4 weeks class in Boston, call me with my middle name. A name for me to be familiarized with.
“Eka” was taken from a word in Sanskrit which means “one”. My Bangladeshi fellow said to me that in Bangla (official Bangladesh language which mostly derived from Sanskrit) “eka” means “alone” or “unique”. Once they saw me join in a group with other people during class program, they said, “Eka is not alone anymore.” 🙂
